Because the zinc diffuses into the substrate instead of sitting on top of it, the coating cannot flake or chip, dimensional accuracy on threads is preserved, and there is no hydrogen embrittlement risk — which is why it is specified for high-strength fasteners in mining and rail. Salt-spray performance is comparable to hot-dip galvanising.
